Turning leadership potential into real-world capability

This program prepares teens and tweens to confidently care for younger children, handle household emergencies, and run their own local babysitting businesses.

Babysitting Mastery Camp is a new Kindraza summer program designed to help teens build confidence, responsibility, and first-income skills through Red Cross certification, entrepreneurship, and hands-on experience.

  • Child Care & Safety Foundations: Infant and toddler care basics, safe play, managing behaviour and critical conflict-resolution tools.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Basic first aid scenarios, home safety audits, and clear crisis communication guidelines.
  • The Business of Babysitting: Teens learn practical business and leadership skills including marketing, professionalism, money management, and communication. Participants leave with a step-by-step plan to help them become high-demand, trusted babysitters in their local community.
  • Real-world Practice: As part of the Babysitting Mastery program, teens take part in structured leadership sessions with younger campers. These sessions are fully supervised, face-to-face, and take place entirely within the controlled 918 Bathurst facility, providing teens with valuable hands-on experience, increased confidence, and meaningful interaction with local families.
We prepare teens to be capable, not just "hired".

Why we recommend the 5-Day Camp Training

Unlike a standard weekend CPR/First Aid and babysitting certification course, Kindraza’s Babysitting Mastery Camp combines full Red Cross certification with hands-on learning designed to build real-world confidence, responsibility, communication skills, and practical readiness for babysitting.

Rather than focusing only on technical training, we emphasize:

• confidence and leadership

• practical babysitting experience

• communication and basic business skills

• safety for both children and babysitters

• camp-style, peer-based learning

The Science Behind Our 5-Day Framework

The 5-day camp approach may be the best developmental fit for most teens aged 12–15 because they learn more effectively in social, hands-on environments than through condensed certification courses or intensive 8-hour training session.

We deliberately rejected the standard, passive 1-day video/lecture format because cognitive science proves it fails young teenagers. Our curriculum is built directly on three established pillars of educational psychology:

  • The 1.5x Failure Rate of Passive Lectures: A massive landmark study published by the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) analyzed over 225 educational formats. It proved that traditional, passive lecturing results in a 55% higher failure rate and significantly lower concept retention compared to active, social learning.
  • The "Feeling" vs. "Reality" of Learning: Research out of Harvard University reveals that while students feel like they are learning during a smooth, passive presentation, their actual tested skills and long-term memory are drastically higher when forced to actively problem-solve through role-play.
  • Adolescent Neuroplasticity (Ages 12-15): According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the teen brain undergoes a major rewiring of the prefrontal cortex. This creates a unique window where hands-on, peer-interactive settings literally strengthen brain circuits and executive functions far faster than solo, text-heavy studying.

Real-world readiness

While CPR certification is important, we also focus on the broader skills that matter in real situations:

• staying calm under pressure

• making sound decisions

• taking initiative

• clear communication

• problem solving and critical thinking

At this age, those matter more.

*In partnership with certified Canadian Red Cross Instructors

The program includes two afternoons of supervised hands-on practice with younger children in a structured camp setting.

At Kindraza, we focus on helping teens become capable, not just trained and hired.

Summer fun in between

The Babysitting Mastery program is built into a high-energy summer camp experience filled with fun outings and hands-on activities, so teens don’t just learn, they actually love being there. It’s a chance to unplug, build real friendships, and grow confidence while having a genuinely great summer! No phones allowed!

See the full list of activities and outings in the camp schedule below. babysitting courses, Toronto standalone 1-day certification clinics (like the Red Cross Coast2Coastlocation)

The program is designed for both complete beginners and teens who already have some babysitting experience and want to improve their confidence, and babysitting skills.

Meet Our Camp Team

Our camp is entirely run and taught on-site by three experienced professionals who know exactly how to connect with young teens and keep them safe, engaged, and learning.

  • On-Site Camp Coordinator & Business Guide:

An Annex neighbor and mom of two teenagers with over 20 years of experience helping people start successful small businesses from scratch. She skips the boring lectures and teaches teens the fun, practical side of running a local babysitting business. She helps them figure out their personal strengths, practice for their first interview with local parents, set fair rates, and organize their earnings safely.

  • On-Site Education & Leadership Lead:

A full-time boarding school teacher (Grades 7–12) and housemaster who lives and works with teens daily. Having started her own career babysitting at just 11 years old, she knows every single up and down of the trade firsthand. This makes her the perfect mentor to lead our conflict resolution lessons, Q&A problem-solving challenges, and active role-playing sessions. She guides teens through realistic mock situations, teaching them practical ways to handle toddler tantrums, manage difficult situations, foster screen-free playtime, and communicate maturely with adult clients.

  • Our Certified Red Cross Instructor:

A dedicated instructor from our official Canadian Red Cross partner who leads the hands-on safety training on-site. They ensure your teen fully masters basic first aid, emergency preparedness, and infant/child safety to earn their official certification.

  • Our Visiting Toronto Artists:

We don't do boring, time-filler crafts. Our afternoon DIY workshops (like mosaic making and face-painting) are taught by practicing, professional local artists. Your teen learns real artistic skills they can actually use to entertain kids at birthday parties or add to their babysitting toolkit to stand out to local families.

Real world application:

As part of the Babysitting Mastery program, teens have the opportunity to take part in fully supervised, structured leadership sessions with younger campers (ages 6–8) within the same facility.

These sessions are designed to help teens apply their babysitting and childcare training in a real environment, including:

  • Supporting children during creative and STEM activities
  • Practicing communication, patience, and guidance skills
  • Assisting in group settings under direct counsellor supervision
  • Observing and learning structured childcare dynamics in action

This is not independent babysitting — all interactions are carefully guided, supervised, and integrated into the camp structure.

The goal is to help teens build real confidence, responsibility, and situational awareness in a safe, supported setting.

This activity is great for real babysitting experience, leadership practice, and instant connections to local families with younger kids who need sitters.
